Web Design

Website design for Makerslide, a Johannesburg based company that specializes in CNC machines and linear motion extrusions. They supply South Africa with all the parts necessary to make custom builds, eliminating the need for any import costs and hassle-free parts for passionate hobbyists. The site sets the bar for quite a few of my past designs, set up specifically for user interactivity. This greatly shows in site performance and daily traffic. Apart from the website, I also added a logo design that sets the company image up properly, viewable here: Makerslide logo design

[Sassy_Social_Share]
In my personal opinion, the age of static websites is fastly coming to a close. The digital era is much more catered for interactivity and useful informational tools. As is obvious with this build. The site is mainly an e-commerce shop and makes a good amount of sales per month. This is greatly brought on by the setup allowing for Q & A's. Custom build submissions and a forum for any and all communications.
Creating more of an on-site community rather than a static site housing static content that rarely changes. This is not only great for SEO but similarly for users and just as well for sales.

Behind the scenes

Often a site is seen as just something visually appealing with intent to give a quick description and drive some sales. I prefer to look at websites a little differently. An online "experience" and a place for community. This is far more valuable in the long run and creates massively impactful websites. Search engines work like a high school social hierarchy. The most popular and senior kid gets to be the star of the show, pushing sites to the top using quality niche specific traffic.

Pages

The site consists of the main elements and a good number of sub-sections. Each with its own specific purpose. These are all optimized for the best possible user experience. A simple build with semi-intricate animation and appealing imagery.

Home Page

The front page acts as a one-page scroller to relevant site links. This is meant to assure users get to the exact page they are looking for. The site is meant to be an e-commerce build, however, it is so much more! The landing page is by the first page potential users are likely to end up on. The home-base of the entire site.
For that reason, it makes use of great imagery above the fold and pleasing simple animations. All the above the fold content such as the hero banner consists of two links that take users straight to the most important website sub-pages.

About

Naturally a necessity for the majority of websites out there. A fully descriptive page on the CNC machines the company offer. Giving relevant background information and creating trust by displaying the business model and what they set out to achieve.
The main goal of this page is to be as descriptive and informative as possible. Showing a gallery with some great examples of CNC machines and what has been created. Not only acting as a showcase but also as a page for newbies and potential hobbyists to get a better grasp of what it entails.

Community

This is mainly where interactivity comes in. Getting a good amount of return site visits and an active forum where users can discuss a lot of ideas centred around what the site offers. This mostly takes the form of custom builds and ideas for future projects. The Q & A also has a great deal of useful information, often this is a great tool to have for SEO efforts. When search terms include a question this is likely where click-throughs will come from.
Using a login system for community-based builds also has the added benefit of lead generation. This, in turn, is more than perfect as the direct marketing will not be seen as spam and will likely assure return visitors and great remarketing capabilities.

Custom builds

The website allows direct custom build submissions. Giving users the ability to upload their most recent projects and share what they are working on. A place for both inspiration and pushing the community aspect of the site even more. This sparks conversation and also has site users actively and willingly create your content. How's that for letting your site do all the work for you?
Search engines generally prefer sites that are updated regularly with new information. The content created by users are niche specific and create ongoing engagement.

Downloads

A downloads page gives users the ability to take advantage of pre-used templates and software specific to their machine. Housing these downloads make the site a one-stop shop for any and all CNC needs. Generally giving useful information that helps users effectively do what they set out to with your company is an amazing way to build trust and also turn the website into a reference page.
All of these extra tools are meant to help consumers. Happy customers are return customers.

Contact

This goes without saying. A contact page is an easy and direct way that customers can reach the company. Rather than giving out contact information, likely to be sold off for automated mechanised machine telemarketers. The site makes use of a contact form, set up for easibility yet protected against bots and spam.
Naturally, the end-goal of the website is to drive sales and get a good amount of return clients. Aside from the ongoing community forum, the contact page acts as not only a page with event tracking but also a secure way for secure and direct contact.

Responsive

The beauty of a pre-built WordPress themes is that they come pre-coded with responsive adjustment in mind. Only requiring minor adjustments to assure full cross-platform responsiveness. This both greatly reduces the time needed to code from the ground up and also doubles what the site can be capable of without the need of first adjusting every element for mobile individually.

Rather than using pre-built templates I mostly prefer using premium themes that incorporate the grunt of work and custom code these completely. The website is fully responsive on tablets with a few adjustments here and there to assure it works perfectly across all devices.

I would gladly shun the non-believers! shunnnnn! Premium themes are popular for a reason. Using pre-coded mobile responsive themes is by far my preferred way of building. The site is fully responsive on mobile devices and with some tweaks easily go across to the smallest possible screen size.
